6 Ways to Grow As A Person During This Challenging Time

July 8, 2020 By Africa

We’re nearing the end of this current wave of the pandemic – or at least it’s looking that way. That said, it looks as though we’ll be able to do a few more things with our time. We’re still limited to a degree, and it’s still sensible to stay indoors in order to save lives and keep the curve as flat as possible. It might be a pain in the backside at times, but it’s the right thing to do. Sure, we can obviously have a little more freedom, and we don’t have to be caged in like prisoners all the time, but a little common sense should probably come into the equation here.

How You Can Grow As A Person During This Challenging Time

While we’re sitting indoors and seemingly wasting away a few months of our lives, it can feel as though we’re declining as individuals and, thus, as a collective society. That doesn’t have to be the case, however. We don’t always have to head out in order to become greater than what we already are. We can improve while in the confines of our own homes. Being indoors a lot can feel demotivating and fairly boring, but with a little discipline, you can do anything. Here are a few things you can do in order to grow as a person during this limited time:

1. Read Some More

For many people, taking in new information isn’t exactly the most fun they can have. They spent years in school having to read textbooks and other kinds of material, and those years are firmly behind them. Reading is actually a fantastic skill that can help you out in so many ways. It’s always helpful when you’re able to read and understand what certain words and phrases mean as you never know when certain linguistic skills may be called into action. Knowing more general information is also great for common sense.

Being able to read, write, and speak a lot better will also help you in general life. Having that confidence with words will give you the charisma needed in order to get your message across in all kinds of conversations. Your confidence overall would then increase.

2. Learn A Musical Instrument

Music is something that we all enjoy to some extent. It has the power to lift out spirits if we’re feeling a little down. It can also get us into the required mood necessary for whatever situation we’re about to head into. Being able to listen and memorize words is a lot different from actually playing and reading music, though. Music takes finesse and patience in order to master. Learning the piano, the guitar, or how to read sheet music would definitely turn you into a more patient person with better problem-solving skills. It sort of goes without saying, but your hand-eye coordination would also improve.

3. Fix Up The Home A Little

If you are competent when it comes to domestic needs, then you’re going to be in a good position as an individual. If you can look after yourself and look after your home, you’re good to go. That doesn’t mean you can’t always improve, though. Not everyone is like Mary Poppins. Perhaps, now that we have more time, you could fix your washing machine like you’ve been planning on doing for a while. Maybe you could clear out the clutter in the spare room. Maybe you could renovate a few things yourself. There are lots of options within your house.

4. Work Out

You can’t go to gyms or any kind of recreational club for the time being, but you can still exercise and work your butt off. Not everyone likes to keep active every single day, but it’s something that we should all do at least a couple of times a week. It’ll make you more physically adept, and it’ll help you out mentally, too.

5. Bond As A Family More

If you have a young family and are surrounded by them all the time, then this won’t be something you’ll need to worry about – you might even be a little burnt out with all the closeness! If you have teenagers or you’ve recently had to move in together due to the current circumstances, then this might be a great time to bond a little more. This togetherness not only improves your social skills, but your listening skills and ability to empathize also increase.

6. Start Up A Business Or A Passion Project

We all have a lot more free time, so we might as well be productive with it. We’re not saying you’re going to immediately create an empire worth millions, but you could absolutely jot down some ideas and create a plan. You have the opportunities and the ability to create whatever you want, so go right ahead.
