April 22nd is Earth Day and I am excited to partner with Zak to participate in their Choose To Reuse campaign.
The earth is suffering – our dependence on disposable products is polluting our rivers, oceans, roadways and so much more. This is why Zak is excited to help us end this dependency by challenging us all to make a pledge to use reusable containers instead of disposable ones whenever, and wherever, possible for 30 days starting TODAY – Earth Day 2019.
This Earth Day Choose to Reuse and End Disposable Dependency
In my daily activities the easiest way to participate in the Choose to Reuse Challenge is using a reusable water bottle, like the Alfalfa tumbler from Zak.
The Alfalfa tumbler is a stainless steel double-wall, vacuum-insulated tumbler. It is available in 20 and 30 ounce sizes and in lilac, gray and indigo. At just $17.99 (20oz) and $19.99 (30oz) I’ve stocked up to keep a bottle at work, at home and in my vehicle.
By doing this I’ve cut out the need to purchase bottled water, that once I’m done drinking, I throw the empty plastic bottle away. Also, with a straw built into the tumbler I no longer use disposable plastic straws.
Another way to participate in this challenge is by using reusable shopping bags. It truly is easy to get your hands on these reusable bags and think of all the plastic bags you will no longer need to use. We use our reusable bags at the grocery store, as well as department stores, plus I use them to carry around stuff my daughters need when we’re out and about.
In case you needed a little more motivation to join me in the Choose to Reuse Challenge, take a look at these stats – I’m confident you’ll see just how badly this challenge is needed;
- Every minute a million plastic bottles are bought around the world,
- Not even half the plastic bottles sold in 2016 were turned in for recycling, and only 7% of those were used to create new bottles,
- It takes more than 400 years for plastic to degrade,
- By 2025, the ratio of plastic to fish in the ocean could be one to three, and by 2050, it’s expected that the weight of plastics in ocean will surpass the weight of fish in the ocean
I know we might think that our impact to the earth in general isn’t much, but if we all band together, all do our part, we WILL start to see improvement, and we’ll leave the earth a better place for our children.
