During our recent trip to San Francisco we were treated to a visit to The Walt Disney Family Museum, on what would have been Walt’s birthday, December 5th.  While we were there we got to tour the “Wish Upon a Star: The Art of Pinocchio” exhibit and I am so excited to share my experience with you.

“Wish Upon a Star: The Art of Pinocchio” Exhibit Recap! #PinocchioBluray

Especially as you can get Pinocchio on Digital HD & Disney Movies Anywhere TODAY – available on Blu-ray on January 31st!!

Wish Upon a Star: The Art of Pinocchio was a never before seen exhibit that has truly allowed those who were lucky enough to visit an in-depth, behind the scenes look into just how Walt Disney was able to create this influential animated feature-length film back in 1940.

The Wish Upon a Star exhibit had more than 300 objects—including original hand-drawn artwork, character model sheets, cels, maquettes, paintings, conceptual artwork, artifacts, flipbooks, and film clips.

One of my favorite parts was getting to flip through the flipbooks – their creativity and ability to make those books is mind blowing to me.

The exhibit showcases the intricate, labor-intensive processes of traditional hand-made animation as developed at the Studios.  We were taken through six sections to truly learn the story of Pinocchio’s creation: story, design, production, art direction, character development, and animation.

Produced at the end of the Depression in the late-1930’s, Pinocchio brilliantly deployed state-of-the-art hand-crafted drawings and various technical breakthroughs—such as the Multiplane Camera—to tell an epic story.

Touted by many as the crowning achievement of the extraordinary Golden Age of Walt Disney’s early studio, this groundbreaking film pioneered cutting-edge animation and sound technologies and firmly established a blueprint for Disney film making that remains intact today.

It became the first animated feature film to win a competitive Academy Award®—in fact it won two—and is now considered one of the finest films ever made.

Getting to experience Wish Upon a Star: The Art of Pinocchio was a once in a lifetime opportunity from this mother and accountant from Minnesota.  I learned so much about the movie I would otherwise never have known and I cannot wait to share all the fun facts with my wife and daughter when we watch Pinocchio TONIGHT.  I have purchased the movie on digital HD and cannot wait to get home to have movie night!!

I highly encourage you to get your copy TODAY and remember you can pick it up on Blu-ray on January 31st!!
