We are familiar with the MAM line of products; from bottles to pacifiers to teethers, it is only natural they would also make a fantastic line of oral hygiene products for your little ones!! I am excited to share with you some of these products as well as some useful tips as we celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month.
Developed in conjunction with health practitioners and developmental psychologists, MAM’s innovative oral care collection helps maintain baby’s oral health from birth and beyond. Like all MAM products, the oral care collection is BPA-free, PVC-free, lead-free and CPSIA-compliant.
MAM Oral Care Rabbit (0+ months)
Designed to maintain baby’s oral hygiene before teeth arrive, the MAM Oral Care Rabbit gently removes plaque and bacteria from baby’s mouth. Simply tuck your fingers tuck into the rabbit’s super soft “ears” like a glove, allowing you to gently massage and clean baby’s gums. I really think this will help your infant transition to a regular tooth brushing routine at an early age.
Helpful Tip #1 – How to clean the inside of baby’s mouth?
Contrary to popular belief, proper oral care for baby should begin before the first tooth appears. The AAPD suggests parents gently wipe the inside of baby’s mouth and gums with a clean, soft cloth regularly to remove germs and leftover milk.
MAM Massaging Brush (3+ months)
Another great step for your child’s transition to using a tooth brush is the MAM Massaging Brush. It has different surfaces to gently massage your little one’s gums while easing teething pain and cleaning teeth. Its extra-long handle is made so that you and your little one can hold it at the same time, they can start to get the hang of things but you’re there to help them out when needed.
Helpful Tip #2 – When to start using a toothbrush with baby?
As soon as teeth appear, start brushing two times a day with an age-appropriate toothbrush to gently remove plaque and bacteria. Look for brushes designed just for babies that have rounded heads and super-soft bristles.
MAM Learn to Brush Set (6+ months)
The MAM Learn to Brush Set includes 2 brushes: one with a long handle for baby and parent to brush together and one with a short handle for when your child has learned to use their brush on their own. The red bristles indicate the proper amount of toothpaste to use, which I have found extremely useful. The brushes have soft, rounded bristles which clean your child’s first teeth and remove plaque and bacteria.
I love the brushing guard which prevents your child from sticking the brush too far into their mouths, you can see the pictures of Gradie using her toothbrush with this guard attached.
Helpful Tip #3 – When to start using toothpaste with baby?
When children reach the age of two, parents can use a pea-size amount of children’s toothpaste. Look for toothbrushes that feature indicator bristles to help determine the correct amount of toothpaste for little ones and use a toothbrush that allows mom and baby to hold the handle together for guided brushing. (The AAPD also recommends a smear of fluoride toothpaste for children under two who are at-risk for tooth decay. Health care professionals and pediatric dentists can help parents determine if baby is at-risk.)
