We became new moms just over 2 years ago. I am relatively confident we believed we knew what we were doing, like most everyone without children think they know what they’re doing. However, looking back on things I can say with almost certainty we knew just about nothing and what we thought we knew was not always correct!!
A perfect example of this is from last year, it was Christmas Day. We had bought ‘ugly sweaters’ for each of us to wear and as a family we were on our way to Papa and Grandma’s house to celebrate the day, wearing our fun sweaters. While on the way poor Gradie threw up all over her car seat, all over herself, all over her ‘ugly sweater’. The poor little girl was covered in puke, we pulled over the car immediately to help her. That is when we realized our ‘Mom Fail’ of the day – we had left the house without wipes and without a change of clothes.
Being a mom is tough, it is challenging, then you throw in that we were trying to get the car packed to leave, did we get the food, did we get the gifts, did we get diapers……..and we quickly found out that we had left stuff behind, some really important stuff that are Must Haves for Travelling with a Toddler (or infant). This is when we decided that we were going to create a car tote of travel must haves, this tote will obviously come in handy when you’re swamped, you have a million things on your mind and not enough time or hands to make it happen.
7 Must Haves for Traveling with Toddlers
- Spare diapers. I’m not talking your regular diaper bag, I’m talking SPARE diapers for the time you run out, for the time you simply forget the diaper bag all together. Whatever the reason, you need to have these spare diapers for that ‘just in case’ moment coming true.
- Change of clothing. For so many reasons you’d think this one would be obvious but I can’t tell you how many times we just didn’t have a change of clothes for Gradie BEFORE we made our ‘Must Haves’ tote.
- A couple toys. Toys you know your little one likes and that entertain them.
- Blanket. The winter can be harsh, keeping our little ones warm and safe is important and we know how jackets are unsafe in their car seat. Having a spare blanket will keep them warm and often comforts them too (we all know how temperamental toddlers can be!)
- Snacks. For the time you forget to refill the snacks in your diaper bag and you’re out and about and your little one is hungry. Having these extras in this tote will keep your little one happy and save you money so as to not spend money on, likely unhealthy, snacks at the store or gas station.
- Sippy Cup. As with the snacks, there will be the time you leave the house without a sippy cup/bottle. Having a spare will save the day in this situation.
- Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean Wipes. We choose to go with the Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean wipes because they’re the #1 choice of moms and Jeanna and I, two moms, couldn’t agree more. We’ve used these wipes since Gradie was an infant, they’ve always been kind and gentle to her skin. I love that Huggies put their amazing wipes in these super cute, amazingly compact clutches. They fit easily into your diaper bag, they come with an easy to use carry strap that you can easily attach to your stroller and, most importantly, they fit perfectly into your newly created ‘Must Haves Travel Tote’.
Having a toddler and hauling all of their stuff around is hard enough, so anything to make that easier is a WIN in my book and that’s why we have bought so many Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean clutches. They’re compact and super stylish. I am not a fan of giant sized wipes containers, they take up too much room and they’re not nearly as stylish as these clutches. The Clutch ‘n Clean holds 32 wipes, but it is refillable, so you can keep the bigger containers of wipes at home and refilling your clutch as you need to.
Of course both Jeanna and I have the Huggies Clutch ‘n Clean in our travel totes in our vehicles but we also have them in our diaper bags, attached to our stroller and we’ve left a couple over at the in-laws. Both of my sister in laws have asked what it is and once we told them they’ve both stocked up on them too at CVS. #CVSHuggiesHeroes
As you can see, it is easy to pack up your Must Haves Travel tote that will make traveling with toddlers (or babies) that much easier, especially as you travel to friends and family this holiday season. Gradie is also able to get a wipe out herself, which is great because she hates having dirty hands.
Let me know if you can think of anything I should add to my travel tote – I’d love to hear from you!! Head over to this social hub to learn about other great travel and holiday survival methods.
