Ikea Recall – What are your next steps??
You read that right – Ikea recalls 27 million dressers!! Chances are you already heard that this week, however, I wanted to follow up with what to do next for multipe reasons. I have 2 of the dressers that are being ‘recalled’ AND I have a very fun loving, active two year old. Reading the reasons for the recall make my blood run cold, so I wanted to share with you exactly what you can do to ensure you do what is necessary to keep your little ones SAFE!!!!
Recapping the reason for this recall;
Ikea is recalling about 27 million chests and dressers because they can tip over and crush children if they aren’t anchored to the wall, the retailer and the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Wednesday.
Now I am sure you are asking WHAT NOW? I wanted to share with you what you can do to get this potentially devestating problem fixed. As Ikea’s website says, “The best way to prevent furniture tip-over accidents is to anchor chests and dressers to the wall.” Which is exactly what they’re going to help us do. I am relatively sure (I could be wrong) that the dressers originally included the wall-anchoring kit but not everyone used them, for whatever reason. You can now receive a free wall-anchoring kit EASILY!! Either visit your local IKEA store or by clicking here.
You’ll see a page that looks like this
All you do is complete the information of where you would like the wall-anchoring kit sent, it really is that easy!! I especially like that you are NOT required to provide an email address – we all get enough emails, right?!
One thing to point out is that you need to make sure which kit you require, there are two. Kit Option R1 is if you own an IKEA children’s chest/dresser taller than 23.5″ and/or an adult chest/dresser taller than 29.5″, then you will need Kit R1. Kit Option R2 is if you own a STOCKHOLM, BUSUNGE, NORDLI chest, or STUVA series (25″ or 50″ height frames), you will need Kit R2.
I will admit we did not have our dresser attached to the wall, but after hearing this Ikea Recall I have followed the instructions I described above to get our wall-anchoring kit!! Rather safe then sorry – I hope this information is helpful for you and your family, if this Ikea Recall impacts you!!

Thanks so much for sharing, although I don’t have smaller ones anymore, I’m sure going to pass this around to some of my friends that do!

eeek! I saw the Ikea recall but didn’t read what it was for. Luckily I don’t have any of the dressers in question, but the number being recalled is huge. Glad they will be providing kits to help anchor these to the wall. When my son was younger he almost pulled a heavy tv on top of him, so I know how scary this can be to many parents.

I could not imagine having a dresser fall on a small child. This is just awful. So awesome of this company to care enough to do this recall!

I think it is so important to always anchor dressers and other furniture that could be pulled down. My daughter crawled up on her dresser and it tipped over. Only by the grace of God did she not get hurt. the drawers opened so it formed a little “tent” over her little body. It was so beyond scary.

ANY dresser should be anchored to the wall anyway…….
