Avengers: Age of Ultron – in theaters TODAY!!!
The Avengers have REASSEMBLED!!!
I was lucky enough to attend a preview screening of Avengers: Age of Ultron and I’m here to share with you the top Five reasons you MUST go see it – BEFORE your friends!!!!
The list is, in no particular order (because every reason is reason enough to go see this movie!!)
1. Ultron
What’s not to love about an 8 foot villain whose only mission is to bring about human extinction? An eight foot villain who can self-replicate and is hell bent on destroying everyone and everything? Yes, Ultron is definitely a reason you MUST go watch Avengers: Age of Ultron. Played by James Spader, Ultron takes on a formidable presence as the source of evil that the Avengers have reassembled to fight and overcome.
After the first Avengers movie many thought that the next villain would be Thanos, as he was featured in the ending sequence. However, it was always Joss Whedon’s plan to have Ultron be the focus of this, the second Avengers movie, with Thanos being the larger, evil force, which is still there, always there, behind it all.
James Spader, who at 5’10” is dwarfed by his on screen character, gives life to Ultron in a way that only James Spader can. Known for his eccentric as well as serious roles, I can understand why Joss chose him to play Ultron. Essentially created by Iron Man, Ultron starts out as a form of artificial intelligence and is quickly able to morph into an evil, killer robot, who self-replicates and who wants nothing more than to destroy all of mankind.
As the namesake of the movie – Age of Ultron – he definitely makes the list as one of the five reasons you MUST go see this movie – TODAY!!
2. Vision – an ‘old’ friend in a new form
The Vision, played by Paul Bettany, is one of three new characters in the Age of Ultron. However, Paul has been the voice behind Jarvis in the Iron Man movies, so he is not all that new to the Avengers family, but now he gets to step out from behind the voice over box to the big screen as himself, well sort of himself, sort of a purple costume clad character.
The Vision is essentially born as an adult, and you see that play through as he delves into the world of the Avengers, but at the same time just really experiencing ‘real life’ for the first time. The Vision takes in all around him, discovering and exploring things as a child does, and at the same time he is helping to save the world from Ultron.
The Vision is a quintessential Avenger in the comic books, and Joss, as director, and Paul, bring him to life in a way that only Marvel can. This, my friends, is the reason you MUST go see Age of Ultron – TODAY!!
3. The Twins, Pietro & Wanda Maximoff
AKA – Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch
I said there were three new characters in Avengers: Age of Ultron, one being The Vision, the other two are Pietro and Wanda Maximoff – also known as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, played by Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen.
Quicksilver’s super power is being able to move at the speed of sound, while Scarlet Witch has some of the most powerful powers of all of the Avengers, without the need to throw one punch. Her powers are shapeless, telekinesis – she can move things, and shield things, she can see into the past as well as the future, but, and definitely more powerful, she can get inside your head and make you face your worst fears, which is exactly what she does to the Avengers.
As the newcomers to the set Aaron and Elizabeth had a long standing working relationship prior to Age of Ultron, this plays into the dynamic of their extremely close relationship as twins in the Avengers: Age of Ultron. They are the ying to each other’s yang, there isn’t one without the other. Their relationship and how it is explored throughout Age of Ultron is the reason they make it into my five reasons you MUST see this movie – TODAY!!
4. Woman Power – Black Widow and Scarlet Witch
Being a super hero is typically a ‘man’s job’ – but not in the Avengers: Age of Ultron. Sure the majority of super heroes are male, but there are a couple very distinctive and powerful roles played by woman.
Elizabeth Olsen plays Scarlet Witch, and while she starts on the ‘wrong side’ of the Avengers, she ultimately ends up on the right/good side, kicking a** and taking names. While her character is new in the Avengers movies, I think there is a lot to explore in her character and how that will be explored in future Avengers movies. Therefore, the reason she is included in my fourth reason you MUST see Age of Ultron – you don’t want to miss out on the beginning of this character and her role as a powerful FEMALE super hero.
Natasha Romanoff, AKA Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, is a returning super hero and is a definite fan favorite. Besides for all of the obvious reasons that Black Widow is one of the most power female super heroes out there, the fact that she was pregnant during filming makes her role even more powerful, at least in my eyes, and I am sure every other woman who has been big, ‘fat’ and pregnant.
Most of us dread the thought of getting up in the morning, never mind getting up and being on set for hours on end, working a demanding schedule, in numerous countries, all the while focusing on staying healthy for your growing child. This alone is reason enough to be included in my five reasons you MUST see Age of Ultron – TODAY!
5. It’s been exactly three years, WHY would you wait another day?
In the Avengers movies none of the characters chose the job of super hero, the job chose them and they all do the best they can in the roles they play. We always want the ‘good guy (or gal)’ to come in and save the day and this is what the Avengers do as they reassemble to fight Ultron and save mankind. However, while they’re doing that Joss Whedon, as director, and Kevin Feige, as producer, do a phenomenal job of incorporating their personal backstories, showing them to us as they haven’t done so before, that they’re human (well most are human), that they have relationships outside of being an Avenger and personal stories they all struggle with.
As these stories are told and the fight against Ultron plays out, Marvel will surely be making history this weekend as they have set out to break the current domestic box-office record of $207.4 million in the three-day opening weekend of Avengers: Age of Ultron. That ladies and gentlemen is the fifth and final reason you MUST GO SEE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON TODAY – you want to be a part of history, right?
Oh, and of course, see it BEFORE your friends so you don’t find out any of the ‘spoilers’ anyway other then actually watching the movie yourself. I know I will be seeing this movie again this weekend, I have to, it was that good – this time I will be taking it in in 3D!!
Now RUN, don’t walk, to your nearest theater, get your tickets, watch this phenomenal movie and then be sure to stop back and comment below what you thought of the movie!!
