Kids Fly Safe – Child Aviation Restraint System
Imagine the longest road trip you have traveled with your family… now imagine traveling with your little on your lap. Seems odd doesn’t it? I think it’s insane but hundreds of parents do it every day on flights across the world. You wouldn’t consider not having your little one in a car seat in the car, why wouldn’t you do the same on a plane?
I see the strain parents go through with carrying car seats or booster seats around the crowded airports. Thank goodness someone else saw the pain too. Kids Fly Safe Child Aviation Restraint System (CARES) is designed specifically for aviation use for children age 1 and older (and weigh between 22 and 44 pounds). Just when your little one is old enough to be in their own seat but still too small for the seat belt alone to protect them and provide adequate safety during airplane travel.
Until CARES came along, the convenience of traveling with children was missing. CARES is the first and only harness type safety device to be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a safe alternative to a car seat.
CARES is a sophisticatedly designed belt and buckle device that works in conjunction with the regular airplane seat belt and provides young travelers the same level of safety as a car seat. The entire harness fits into a 6” sack and weighs about a pound making it easily portable, simple to install, adjustable to every size airplane seat and usable on any window or center seat in the plane (except in the emergency rows).
As I was looking more into CARES I noticed that it didn’t have a restraint between the child’s legs. And when we tried it out with Ms. E she seemed to wiggle a bit and I could see why some parents might think their little one will pull out of the bottom. CARES doesn’t have a crotch restraint because the FAA is concerned that given the rapid and sudden movements in an airplane the additional strap would cause injury. In FAA testing, they found that if the CARES straps and the lap belt were tightened securely, slipping beneath is not common.
I know that this is something Jeanna and I will use a lot with our baby coming soon. We plan on traveling to South Africa as much as possible and CARES is going to make it that much easier. I would keep it to use for educational purposes when I teach a car seat class (I’m a technician) and to lend out for people traveling.

I thought it was fascinating that they are manufactured by Amsafe the same company that makes airplane seat belts. I would use this with my son. We travel quite a bit!

The FAA thinks that flying with lap kids is unsafe. I would give this to my son for my little grandson for when they come to Florida to visit me from CT.

I had no idea these were made by AmSafe the same company that makes the majority of the seatbelts on the airplanes. That makes me feel safer. I would use this for my four year old and purchase two more – one for my 2.5 year old and one for my 14 month old. Thank you so much for this giveaway!

I think it’s interesting that we don’t think about the potential injury that could occur with something as common and seemingly innocent as turbulence. I would use this for our twice-a-year trips to see family on my almost two-year-old!

It’s been approved for use for adults with special needs. I would give it to my friend to use when traveling with her 5yo special needs son
Amanda Rudolph says
It is approved for kids, teens and adults with special needs.

learned that you do not have to ask for permission to use it as it is FAA certified but sometimes you may need to educate the airline personnel
