Howard B. Wigglebottom – Learns About Sportmanship. Review & Giveaway

May 26, 2012 By Africa

Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship: Winning Isn’t Everything

When I was given the opportunity to review a Howard B. Wigglebottom book I chose  “Learns About Sportsmanship – Winning Isn’t Everything,” of course I did…..right??!  I LOVE sports and everything about them so it was a logical choice for me 🙂

Howard B. Wigglebottom - Learns About Sportsmanship

Teaching our kids that good sportsmanship is a vital life lesson and this book does an amazing job of teaching that lesson, in a fun unique way!!!  I have been a hockey referee for 13 years now and let me tell you I have seen the full spectrum of kids behaviors, from good sports, to kids, as young as 8, mouthing off, yelling and even cursing at me or at the opposition, clearly the lesson of how to be a good sport has been lost, or never taught, to these kids!!

This book tells the story of Howard B. Wigglebottom who hated loosing, he simply had to be the best at everything.  The book explains his story from been a really bad sport through learning how his behavior negatively impacts himself as well as he’s teammates and how he learns to be a good sport and an awesome teammate, leading his team onto victory!!!
At the back of the book parents and teachers will find helpful tips and lesson plans to educate young readers, fantastic for the teachers among us, those who home school their children and for anyone who wants to use these amazing resources to teach their children.

The illustrations in the book are done by Susan Cornelison, who has illustrated all of the Howard B. Wigglebottom series.  She is extremely talented and makes the book really come to life!!  I just LOVE the picture below, if I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that sort of complaint yelled at me as a referee I would be a very rich lady, haha!!
