Chapel Chronicles – Review and Giveaway

March 7, 2012 By Africa

The Chapel Chronicles Review and Giveaway

What are The Chapel Chronicles? The Chapel Chronicles are the weekly adventures of a stylish young redhead named Chapel Smith and her hedgehog companion, Rupert. You can also follow them atwww.chapelchronicles.com.

About the author: Emma T. Capps is a 15 year-old award winning author, artist and cartoonist. She is the creator of The Chapel Chronicles, a line of comic strips and gifts and collectibles. Emmas has had 25 works of art and writing published in national magazines such as Stone Soup, Creative Kids and Skipping Stones. She even won a Gold Medal in the 2011 Scholastic Art and writing awards for her comic book Jam Days!

Review by Mom Does Reviews:

I was so excited to find out that The Chapel Chronicles were coming right to my house! The only problem was that my 9 year-old son decided that he “needed” to read the comics first. Needless to say, I never got my turn to read about Chapel’s zany fun and her pet hedgehog, Rupert until just yesterday.

I still can’t believe Emma, an award winning writer, artist and cartoonist is only 15 years-old. She is very talented, smart, and has a great sense of humor that shines through in all her comics. I enjoyed The Chapel Chronicles so much I couldn’t wait to share Emma’s creativity with all of you!

The Chapel Chronicles is broken up into 4 chapters. My favorite is Chapter 4, The Elegance of the Hedgehog. Chapel has the oh so familiar struggle with her parents to get a puppy. She ends up with a prickly pal, Rupert the Hedgehog. Emma included her own commentary for each comic. She tells us that her parents ( in real life) are allergic to cats and dogs, whereas she is Dr. Doolittle. “This causes some problems.” I love Emma’s quirky humor both in her commentary and in Chapel’s adventures.

Because The Chapel Chronicles are written by a teenager, not an adult, it captures the proper perspective and makes the comic seem so much more believable. There isn’t the adult humor undertones like most comics have. Emma captures the fun side of being a tween, wanting a pet and getting out of her chores.

My favorite comic is The Hedgehog Constitutional in Chapter 4. Chapel loves Sir Rupert Tennyson Balingsworth the First because he is unique, prickly and cuddly. AND he double as an emergency head accessory. Chapel has a thing for hats. Emma’s commentary is quirky and unpredictable, just like Chapel.

I also received a few postcards, greeting cards and strips from Season Two. Emma T. Capps is the most talented 15 year-old I’ve seen in a very long time. She has a great future ahead of her! And, yes I did enjoy reading her comics as much as she did making them!

Mom Does Reviews gives The Chapel Chronicles a big 5 out of 5 stars! I highly recommend Emma’s comics for kids ages 6 and up.

Justin’s review:

Justin, my 9 year-old loved The Chapel Chronicles almost more than I did! He said they were cool, funny and he couldn’t believe Emma was only 15 years old. His favorite comic is the one below, Triple Word Score. He read it to me 3 times while I was trying to make dinner. We spent 5 minute trying to pronounce sesquioxidizing! I think he related to Emma’s creation because he is an only child too and writes up all these bizarre games that he plays with his imaginary friends.
