So I have being trying to determine the benefits as well as drawbacks (if any) to been self hosted.
Can anyone offer any advice?
I’ve heard that hostgator is a good site to use and that you can register your domain there as well as use them to host the site. And that they’re a great option to transfer a wordpress.com account.
Anyone have any experience with any other companies?
Really any advice/comments/suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated from the ‘blogosphere’

Interesting Thoughts, Affordable website hosting services didn’t exist ten years ago. If you wanted to have a website you had to be prepared to hand over a big chunk of your paycheque and many of the hosting companies had a lot of hidden charges. Times have changed though, and no you can have a website with all the features for the price of a fast food meal each month.

I use host24 but I can’t recommend them. The cost is under $10 for unlimited sites (I host 4 of them) but whenever I have an issue, there is a big language barrier and I can only communicate through email.
One of the reasons people choose to self host is that googel tends to pick them up faster. I have not had that experience yet either.
BTW when I got to this page I just about forgot what I was doing here because your dogs are so darn cute!
