Day 22 – What makes you different from everyone else

October 17, 2011 By Africa

Well lets see….I am a lot like everyone else and yet there are a few items that make me different from everyone else!!  I do like the items that make me ‘unique’ and I pride myself on not been merely a “sheep” in following others and what they do, how they act, etc.  Don’t get me wrong I have attempted to do this and be that person, but it was a huge failure and I realized I Love who I am, what I am and what I have become in life!

Ok, back on track…….what makes me DIFFERENT……..

  1. I’m South African,
  2. Even though I am African, I am white,
  3. I am a lesbian, out and PROUD,
  4. I am a female hockey player,
  5. I have being to 8 IIHF World Championships,
  6. I have being a hockey official for 13 years,
  7. I LOVE accounting (don’t judge!)
  8. I get beyond excited when debits = credits (again don’t judge)
  9. I am closer in age to my 2 oldest nephews then I am to my 2 oldest brothers,
  10. Despite #9 my conception was not a ‘mistake’  🙂
I think 10 items that make me different is sufficient……..granted not all of it makes me different from EVERYONE, but puts me in certain ‘groups’, which all adds to my uniqueness 😉
Two pictures below, one of me and one of Jeanna and I, taken today.  My hair is actually down, who’d have thought?!?!
ME!! Self Portrait

OK- so when did you get into hockey? Before or after you came to Minnesota? How long have you been here? I don’t know how big the women’s hockey world is here in MN, I former co-worker of mine is pretty big into it though- I wonder if you know/ know of her (Amy MacDonald).

Hi and thanks for stopping by again. I got into hockey back in South Africa, I’ve been on the South African National Hockey Team since 1997, yeah we are pretty much like the Jamaican bobsled team LOL. But it’s taken me around the world so no complaints at all. And it’s the reason I am here in the USA.
MN is the biggest state for woman’s hockey. The adult woman’s hockey league based out of MPLS is the largest woman’s league in USA hockey. I LOVE this state for that and will likely never leave MN!!
I have heard of Amy Mc Donald, I’m pretty sure!!
I just love the game, there is no better feeling for me then feeling and hearing the blade of the skate cut through the ice.

We’re big hockey fans here, we had the boys out on the ice for the first time when they were two, hoping Santa brings new skates for Christmas this year!
