Well the subject line is misleading…….it was a day of rest meaning we had no game. However it was not completely a day of rest! We woke up, well I did, at 940am and flew downstairs for some corn flakes before our meeting at 10am. I brought two cups (they’re small cups) of tea with me to the meeting it was super nummy.
The meeting was to explain changes in the lines and to state that going over the past was in fact pointless as all we can do from now on is change the future and not be defined by our rivals but rather to define who we are and where we are going to take the game!! Sabrina was changed from the ‘blue’ line to the ‘red’ line and Dominique moved onto the ‘blue’ line with myself, Nadine, Kirsten and Fyona. Also from now on the ‘blue’ line would be the first line and would be starting games etc. The changes were made in an attempt to fix some issues and obviously to try make things work better.
After the meeting I took a nap……..LOL I know I’d only been up for like less than an hour but I need my rest! Then we were off to practice at noon and on the ice at 12:55pm and off at 1:45pm. During practice I was actually able to take a shot, a one timer, which went directly into my own foot?!!? How the hell is that even possible? LOL
After practice we were going to ice bath and I was ready to go in but instead a big long meeting was held to resolve ‘issues.’ So after that we showered (some ice bathed) and headed to lunch.
Then we had ‘free’ time for the rest of the day……..a group of us; myself, Nadine, Sabrina, Carla (doc), Shaylene, Laura Ann, Kristyn and Dominque went walking down to the ocean, which is about one block from our hotel and we walked along there and then ended our way up at the geothermally heated outdoor (and indoor) pools. The walk was awesome, we had a lot of fun (photo blog will be uploaded after this blog), beautiful sites of the ocean and the islands and the mountains. There was even a little bit of sun for about 20 minutes today……I was scared I’d get sun burnt as it was the first sun we’ve really seen since we got here haha. The pools were amazing!! We weren’t allowed to take any pictures here so there really aren’t many, I bought a postcard to remember it 🙂
The locker room experience was HYSTERICAL!!! First off you HAVE to shower before you go in the pools and the signs say to shower thoroughly and there are pictures showing you to wash your feet, your arm pits, your hair, your crotch and your butt. Well I was in the shower area with Nadine, please bare in mind these showers all pretty much have a bunch of naked women in them, well this boy who’s about 4 years old walks up to Nadine and points at her tape on her leg (red tape from Doc Carla, we both had it on) and asks her WHATS THAT?? Pointing at it, however it was on her leg up to the top of her thigh so he was basically pointing at her crotch……well Nadine managed to remain composed enough to say to him its plaster (band-aid for my American readers) and the mom is like oh its plaster, its plaster……..explaining it to him………apparently the fact that he’s randomly wondering around in the shower staring at all the women was of no concern to anyone…………
Well then Carla is going to take her shower and she is getting ready to go behind the ‘modesty curtain’ as she calls it, as she isn’t like us hockey players who just shower after practices etc. Well she forgot soap so she quick came out, with her costume still on, and got some soap. Well as she was going back to the shower and wanting to pull the curtain shut the “costume police” as Carla so fondly named her, yelled at her to take her suit off………..I laughed so hard!!! There is literally a women whose job it is to make sure people shower WITHOUT their costumes/swim suits on. Ahhhhhh the memories…….well some of which I’d like to erase from my mind forever……..naked women, ALL ages, ALL sizes……….NOUGH SAID!! HAHAHA!!!!!!
There is a big outdoor pool for splashing around in, a large 50 meter outdoor lane pool and a few hot tubs with even warmer water (roughly 38 degrees celsius) in them. There is also a super tube/water slide that we went in. Parts of it are completely black and then there is a part of it with lights in it, it was pretty sweet. Pity we can’t do this in MN as there is NOTHING there that’s not frozen in the winter……heck most of our water parks are all indoors as its best that way to ensure year round entertainment. We were there for a bit then I started getting ancy as I am not a big swimming person but I most definitely wanted to capitalize on this chance of swimming in the geothermally heated pools as it was pretty much a once in a lifetime opportunity!! And it was amazing!!
From there Dominique and I went back to the hostel we stayed at the first night and bought some souvenirs, got mom the spoon she had asked for and a few other things……..of course a key chain for me. Just hope we get to see more ‘Iceland’ stuff so I can get a couple/few gifts but the sightseeing/tourist opportunities have been few and far between. Dominique is such a sweet girl, glad I had the opportunity to spend some time with her and get to know her a bit better.
Then it was dinner time and now we’re back at the hotel. Not all of us, but I am. Its 8pm and I would love to go to bed soon to get a good, LONG nights rest before we take on Iceland at 8pm tomorrow!!
So far so good………..tour
has been good, seeing Iceland has been amazing and the memories will last forever!!
UPDATE: we are watching the game vs Romania on DVD now in the meeting room upstairs……..then bed 🙂
