Kids love trucks – boys and girls, gender doesn’t matter! Go to any ‘touch-a-truck’ event and see the joy on a child’s face. Watch the trash trucks go by and see how excited they get. I don’t know what it is, but I remember been enthralled by trucks too, there is just something about them.
Now your children can enjoy their love of trucks all the while learning some valuable life lessons as Sprout introduces their new show Terrific Trucks. I was recently invited to a press event to learn more about the show and I am excited to share with you what I learned.
Sprout is NBC Universal Cable Entertainment’s 24 hour preschool network that we have gotten very familiar with as Gradie is old enough to ask what TV shows she wants to watch. In addition to their already amazing line up of shows, Terrific Trucks premiers Saturday, July 9 at 9am EST.
At the local event we got to chat with Kristofer Updike, Sprout’s Director of Original Programming. It is always fun to learn how these shows are created, what it takes to get something to air and all that goes in between.
- Terrific Trucks took three years to get this show from creation to getting aired.
- The show is filmed with real trucks; the only item that has any computer generated imagery (CGI) is the eyes of the trucks.
- The set used for filming is in Toronto and is the size of four football fields, there really is nothing about this show that isn’t BIG!
- The ‘cast’ of trucks consists of Tork (the dump truck), Dug (the digger), Sparky (the front end loader), Stotz (the semi) and Blinker (the scooper) – each with their own unique personality.
The show will follow these five trucks as they take on jobs, learning to overcome obstacles as they come up, as a team. I am thrilled that Terrific Trucks is going to be showing our kids that we can get things done when we work together, even when we have differing opinions on things.
I also love that two of the trucks are girl/female trucks – Sparky and Blinker. I love that TV shows are incorporating female characters into main roles. I want Gradie to grow up in a day and age where she never feels her gender hinders her in anyway.
Be sure to watch this YouTube video to get a sneak peak of the show and remember to be watching Sprout Channel on Saturday July 9th at 9am EST;

This would have been a great show when my teen was younger. She loved Thomas the Tank Engine and Bob the Builder. I think she would have loved this show too!
